Lynn Basinger

Lynn Basinger photoDr. Lynn Basinger holds a Masters and Ph.D. in Music Education from Texas Tech University and received the Bachelor of Music Education from Westminster Choir College. After serving as Assistant Professor of Music Education at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Dr. Basinger returned to Texas to become a music specialist for Garland Independent School District. An active researcher and clinician, Dr. Basinger has presented numerous clinics and research posters at state conferences (Texas MEA and Georgia MEA) as well as at all national MENC conferences since 2004. She first attended the Perception and Cognition SRIG at the MENC national conference in Minneapolis in 2004. Since then, Dr. Basinger has been selected to present research with Janice Killian at the Perception and Cognition SRIG at both the Salt Lake City (2006) and Milwaukee (2008) MENC national conferences. Her study on choral blend perception presented in Salt Lake City will appear in the next issue of JRME, and research based on her dissertation regarding the use of acoustical analysis as a tool in the measurement of perceptions of choral blend is under review by The International Journal of Research in Choral Singing. Dr. Basinger’s research has also been published in Texas Research Reports and in UPDATE.

Jennifer Bugos

Jennifer Bugos photoJennifer A. Bugos received her B.M (music education) from the University of Florida, M.M. (music education) from the University of Central Florida, and Ph.D. (music education and minor gerontology) from the University of Florida. She currently serves as an Associate Professor of Music Education and Research at East Carolina University and Research Chair for the North Carolina Music Educators Association (NCMEA).

Jennifer Bugos taught piano, general music, children’s choir, and recorder ensemble for many years in Orange and Seminole County, Florida. While pursuing her doctorate, Bugos served as a secondary caregiver for her grandparents which led to an interest in gerontology. She wrote and facilitated a McKnight Brain Research Grant to examine the effects of individualized piano instruction on cognitive abilities in older adults. Bugos pursued post-doctoral work in the Clinical-Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory under the direction of Dr. William Perlstein. Dr. Bugos’ main research interests include the neurological basis for music perception and cognition with regard to human development, lifespan learning, and cognitive transfer. She currently teaches undergraduate and graduate level coursework and pursues research at East Carolina University. Her research has been featured at national and international conferences such as the MENC National Conference, Society for Neuroscience, and the International Conference on Music Perception and Cognition.

Jennifer Bugos is a fairly new member of the SRIG. She attended the MENC SRIG presentations and business meetings and looks forward to further participation and involvement.
